'I first found out about the Prakti stoves from an old friend, Lizzie: Her glowing review (pun somewhat-intended) on her blog here piqued my interest with its talk of the diminutive little stove producing enough heat for proper wok stir-frying. Over the next couple of months it saw service at festivals, on my boat and even as the demonstration unit for a BBQ show on Vice TV here - with the little charcoal stove perched  under the extraction in the kitchen at MEATliquor. It’s become my go-to kit for knocking up a bit of BBQ quickly and conveniently. It’s a rugged and compact unit that cools down quickly, too, making it ideal for travelling with (and packing it away quickly when the inevitable British summer downpour interrupts your cook-out.)
I’ve cooked the London Lamb Chops from our book, The MEATliquor Chronicles; I’ve cooked burgers and hot dogs, souvlaki & yakitori, and every time I’ve been impressed with the speed it gets up to cooking temperature and the high heat it can generate as a result of the brilliantly simple airflow control. Another effect of the clever design, and something which is of paramount importance in India, where the Prakti hails from, is its fuel efficiency: The Prakti uses far less charcoal than a traditional barbecue, and this again means it’s ideal for travelling - you can stash a small bag of charcoal in the boot of your car and you’ll be amazed how long it lasts. Suffice to say, next year it shall be accompanying me out to the Nevada desert to be put through its paces at Burning Man, and I have no doubt whatsoever in its ability to cope with the rigours of The Dust.'
